Environmental Protection Officer
Website London Boroughs of Wandsworth and Richmond Upon Thames
Two boroughs. Twice the opportunities.
These are exciting times for the London Boroughs of Wandsworth and Richmond upon Thames. We’ve created a ground-breaking shared workforce, serving both boroughs. Now we’re expanding our dual-borough team by recruiting a qualified Environmental Protection Officer.
An experienced and organised Environmental Health professional, you’ll help our staff to deliver a first-class service. Day-to-day, you’ll enforce legislation and apply best practice. That means deciding the best legislative approach for each case and preparing notices, evidence and witness statements. You’ll also monitor actions and progress of works through site visits and contact with business owners. Communication with multiple stakeholders is a big part of the role. It’s important that you can write reports and letters in clear, coherent English.
Join us and you can progress within an innovative service model. Our size and scale mean we can offer opportunities that smaller authorities can’t. To be considered you must have a degree or diploma in Environmental Health or Science. We’ll also consider those with equivalent experience. To join us at a higher grade, you’ll need EHORB registration too.
Your credentials should come with good knowledge of local authority and regulatory services. We are seeking two officers within our teams. Your experience and knowledge should ideally cover Environmental Protection, Noise and Nuisance investigations, Air Quality, Construction Sites and dealing with major Planning applications. You’ll also need to know about the Police & Criminal Evidence Act & Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act. Beyond this, we’re looking for good communication skills and a calm, practical approach. You’ll deal confidently with the public and manage your own workload.
Please note that you may be required to work evenings and weekends from time to time.
